Care leavers aged 18-25 and going back to education or training

If you are a care leaver aged 18-25 and decide to go back into education and training, even though you have left care, the local authority must support you to do this.

Local Authority Grant

They should give you a Local Authority Grant to support you with the cost of education and training

Cost of living

They must help you with the cost of living near your place of education and training

Information about money

They should give you information about any money you are entitled to or can ask for, this includes money from the St David’s Day fund

Personal Advisor and Pathway Plan

You can be given a personal advisor and have a pathway plan developed.

Turning 25

You can keep getting this support until you reach the age of 25, or, if your course keeps going until after the age of 25, the local authority must support you until the programme ends.

If you need to stop your education or training for a period of time, the local authority must reasonably continue to support you until you start your course again
